New to campus or don't know where to begin? Engineering IT professionals are available to help you get started. Even if we don't host the service, we are happy to help point you in the right direction. Look through our Engineering IT Service Catalog on this site to begin learning how we support the innovative research and instruction that Engineering at Illinois brings to the world. Below are a few of the services on campus that will help you get started quickly.

Campus Services to Know

Technology Services: New to Campus?
Technology Services is the Campus-level IT unit providing centralized services such as Exchange (email), Lync, wireless networks, VPN, and many others. More information about their services can be found on the Technology Services' website. Your password for accessing these services may be called either your NetID password or your AD (Active Directory) password. These are separate passwords and can be different but are usually set to be the same.

Unified Communications
The Campus uses Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Skype for Business to provide communication and collaboration services.

  • Skype for Business
    A Skype for Business account for voice/chat service, training available from FAST3, installation of Skype for Business client for Windows and Mac OS and a web client is available.

  • Exchange
    Every faculty, staff, and graduate student with an assistantship has an Exchange account, which provides email, calendar, and address book services. Engineering IT will help configure your work computer to use this account. For information on accessing your Exchange account from other devices, visit the Email information page on Technology Services website. 

File and Data Storage

Engineering IT’s staff of technical professionals can provide a range of robust IT infrastructure services to meet the needs of the College.  Engineering IT provides data storage services for all faculty, staff and students within the College of Engineering.

OnSite Consulting

OnSite Consulting provides students, current or retired faculty and staff, and university departments with the ability to hire a student technician to repair computers anywhere in the Champaign-Urbana area.

Illini-Alert
In the event of a campus emergency, Illini-Alert sends email and text messages, posts to Facebook and Twitter and triggers the Emergency Web Alert System for University websites.

Web Services

Engineering IT Website Design & Hosting
Engineering IT designs and maintains the web presence of the College and many of its individual departments and units. We can provide custom design services for research groups and special projects. Also offered is web hosting on a variety of platforms for courses, research groups, projects, and student organizations affiliated with the College. 

Illinois Compass 2g- Course Websites
Illinois Compass 2g is the main Campus learning management system (LMS). It is used for face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses. Some of the features that Compass can offer for your courses are: a gradebook, discussion board, and quizzes. Details can be found at the Compass information page.

WebTools
Webtools is a full-service suite of tools by Web Services team in Public Affairs. It is used for creating robust tools like Calendars, Blogs, e-newsletters, forms, surveys, and submitting announcements to campus mailing Eweek.

Publish.Illinois.Edu (PIE)
Publish.illinois is campus Wordpress Network. It is supported through Technology Services stemming from a joint project of several campus units. The publish.illinois.edu site offers faculty, staff, and students a convenient and easy way to create websites free. Purchasing Hardware or Software

Webstore
The campus webstore offers a wide range of software at a discount. You may purchase software for your personal computer and your unit will purchase software for your university-owned work computer. Free software is also available.

Illini Union Tech Zone Computer Store
Located in the Illini Union, the Tech Zone computer store offers discounts on computers, peripherals, and supplies. It also offers repair services on some items.

Training Opportunities

CBT Nuggets
This service provides a variety of training, primarily in IT, project management, and office productivity topics. Their comprehensive library contains thousands of training videos ranging from Cisco networking to Microsoft Word. "Whether you want to pass a certification exam, increase your skills, or simply learn new things, we've got you covered!" - CBT Nuggets

Computational Science and Engineering Training
Learn new computational software, tools, and workflows. Trainings take place in university computer labs with software preinstalled, so all you need to do is show up!

FAST3 Workshops
FAST3 (Faculty and Staff Technology Training Team) offers technology training that provides opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to acquire technology skills and knowledge through scheduled classes, featuring hands-on exercises and trainers with real-world experience. Training is offered on a variety of software programs such as Lync, Microsoft Office Products, Sharepoint Designer, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and many more.

Lynda.com Tutorials
Lynda.com offers training on leading software topics including Adobe products, Apple products, Microsoft products, Drupal, video editing, audio editing, using operating systems and much more. Many courses provide 7 to 8 hours of detailed information and are broken down into 5 - 15 minute segments so that you can stop watching at any time and easily return to where you left off.

Technology Services Training
Technology Services offers other training opportunities such as video tutorials, classroom technology, and security.
