EWS has special commands to reset or fix problems in the EWS environment. These should be run from a terminal window / shell prompt in Linux.

ews-reset-gnome

This command will reset your Linux gnome configuration files back to the default. Gnome is the graphical user interface, or GUI, for our distribution of Linux. Use this command if you are experiencing a log in that lasts less than 10 seconds before being logged out again.

Engineering IT operates on a cost recovery funding model.  Units pay for services on behalf of their faculty, students, and staff with the College subsidizing some common and widely used services. Individual faculty and research groups may contract with Engineering IT for services not covered by their home unit.

Almost all of the doors in Siebel Center, including the outside entrance doors, are controlled by e-locks and require access on your i-card to gain entry. 

Undergraduate students who are Computer Science majors can request e-lock access via go.illinois.edu/elock.

If you have an issue accessing an area or need to request access to a specific area, you may submit a ticket to engrit-elock [at] illinois [dot] edu

The file server makes daily backups of everyone's home directories, including all your files and folders. If you accidently deleted or corrupted a file, you can restore older versions of the file. This can be done on both Windows and Linux.

Engineering IT is responsible for overall information security for networks and systems in the College of Engineering. Engineering IT will perform this service in accordance with University policies and best practices (notably, those published by the Office of Privacy and Information Security (OPIS))
