EWS Labs

A town hall was held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 for students to ask questions about the performance problems with the College of Engineering instructional computer labs.  The town hall was facilitated by Chuck Thompson, the CIO for the College.  It was originally promised that the town hall would be live webcast but none of the rooms we have equipped for this were available in the required timeframe.

There are a few reasons why you may be locked out of your computer, depending on the original problem:

Password expiration and/or locked account

Your AD password requires changing every few months. If it needs changed, you will not be able to log into any EWS machine. Visit https://passwords.cites.illinois.edu/ to change or update your password.

The College of Engineering and the Engineering Workstations Labs (EWS) are committed to providing a secure computing environment. To achieve this goal, EWS has disabled any protocols that transmit clear text passwords. EWS users should use SSH and/or SFTP clients to connect to linux.ews.illinois.edu. To download and use secure clients, see "configuring and using Cygwin" on this page.
